Hyderabad: Drunk women driving cops nuts
Total cases registered against women for drunk driving 21
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad traffic police has registered 21 cases of women caught for drunken driving in the last three months, with the highest alcohol level of 170mg/ml BAC (Blood Alcohol Content) recorded.
A senior traffic police officer from Hyderabad Traffic Police team said, "Drunk women who are caught are more problematic when compared to men and the worst part is that we do not have women constables in the night to ensure that smooth action is taken against the violators."
He further added, "When women are caught in a drunken state, the first thing that they do is that they try to run away, and if that does not work they question us about rules in a very rude way. They abuse us, assault us, and insult us. But being from the police department we have to be patient with them."
The officer also said that, it was difficult to have women constables at night, and this made it difficult for them to control the scenario during these drives. The procedure of making the drunk women undergo counselling and then filing of charge-sheet remains the same for women as it in case of men.
Anil Kumar, Additional Commissioner of Police for Hyderabad Traffic said, "We are going to increase the enforcement team very soon, as we want to zero out drunken driving cases in the city."
