Bengaluru: Commuters going towards the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) and Devanahalli were supposed to shell out more at the new
Sadahalli toll gate from Sunday. But the new fare is not coming into effect any time soon.

A toll officer said, “The new fares have been announced and were supposed to be implemented from Saturday midnight. But due to various reasons it cannot be put into effect right away. We have asked for police protection, but there has been no response from them due to Assembly elections.”

He said that the earlier toll for Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) was Rs 85 for single journey and it will remain unchanged. But for two-way journey, it has been increased by Rs 5 from Rs 125. Depending on the vehicle, the increase ranges from Rs  5 to Rs 30. The monthly pass fares have also been revised.

He said, “The toll was supposed to be implemented a week ago, but we are not getting police protection. We have been advised to take police protection for a few days when we implement a new toll or increase it. Both the new toll fares and toll booths towards KIA might be implemented after the elections. If the police  provide the protection right away, we will implement it without wasting time.”
