Bengaluru: After repeatedly knocking on the doors of the panchayat and the MLA to address civic issues and not eliciting any response and action, residents of Rayasandra held a silent protest by forming a human chain.

Rayasandra is 5 km away from Electronic City and is next to Parappana Agrahara Central Jail. The residents' complaint is that the partially tarred roads create havoc during monsoons. As the area comes under panchayat limits, the residents had approached the panchayat members but nothing was done. Waste disposal is not efficient and garbage is dumped on vacant areas, they complained.

With elections round the corner, the residents did not get permission from the police to protest and members of the Mahavir Orchid Owners' Association (MOOA) held the protest on their own campus on Saturday. "It was the society's annual day and we started it with some healthy way of protesting by a marathon inside the campus and by forming a human chain. I am a zumba instructor and I took the initiative to start the marathon with the zumba team," said Anindya Das, managing committee member of MOOA.

He also pointed to water scarcity and intermittent power supply. "We have met the MLA and the panchayat, but unfortunately nothing concrete has happened," he said. The protest witnessed the gathering of over 100 residents.
