Karnataka: After polio drops, baby dies
The condition of other children is reported to be safe.
Hassan: Mystery shrouds the death of a baby boy (aged 1 year and 10 months) on Sunday, hours after he was administered polio drops at Anekanambadi village of Holenarsipur taluk, Hassan, leading to tension in the village.
Around 150 children were administered polio drops by volunteers at Anekanambadi village, falling under Halli Mysuru hobli of Holenarsipur taluk. The condition of other children is reported to be safe.
Despite the doctors’ pleas, the boy’s parents, Preeti and Puttaraju, have not agreed for a post-mortem. Efforts are on by District Health and Family Welfare Officer Venkatesh to convince the parents for post-mortem, as it would help ascertain the cause of infant’s death.
Venkatesh said the boy was administered polio drops around 9.30 am and he slept by 10.30 am. Around 12 noon he did not wake up and was found dead. The boy is suspected to have died owing to asphyxiation, but a post-mortem would reveal his cause of death.
