Kochi: Terror suspect Riyaz remanded
The accused was broug-ht to the court wearing a face mask.
Kochi: The NIA court here on Tuesday remanded in judicial custody Riyaz Aboobacker, 28, who was arrested by the NIA sleuths on Monday on charge of conspiring to commit a terrorist attack in the state, for 30 days till May 29. The court had decided to hear NIA's petition seeking the custody of the accused on Monday.
The accused was broug-ht to the court wearing a face mask. According to sources, Riyas Abooba-cker of Kollengode, Pal-akkad, was psychologically prepared by IS operatives from abroad to conduct a suicide attack. The NIA is on the lookout for a Kollam native who is the fourth member of the module against which it has launched an investigation following the blasts in Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile, the NIA sleuths have decided not to record the arrests of the other two members of the module, Ahamed Arafat of Kaliyangad and Aboobacker Siddique of Nainmarmoola, both in Kasargod district, who were interrogated for the past two days here.
Sources said that Riyaz, Ahamed and Aboobacker were accused 18, 19 and 20 respectively in an IS case registered in 2015 after 15 persons from Kasargod migrated to Afghanistan and Syria. The Kollam native will be made the 21st accused.
The NIA carried out raids on the residences of the houses of the accused on Sunday. The arrest of Riyas was recorded on Monday evening after two days of interrogation by an NIA team under IG Alok Mittal.
