Mumbai: While the Maha Vikas Aghadi tries to put up a united show, its constituents are battling over the Chief Minister’s post. After NCP leader Ajit Pawar claimed the top post in the state, the Maharashtra NCP chief Jayant Patil on Sunday claimed that the next Maharashtra Chief Minister will be from the NCP.

Speaking at an event in Karad, Patil said it was “satisfying” to note that the next CM in Maharashtra would be from the NCP. “Currently, the opposition MVA and the NCP are receiving huge support from people across the state. The satisfying fact is that the next Chief Minister of the state will be from the NCP. This is now accepted by almost everyone. That’s how fast the NCP is moving forward. I am confident that under the leadership of Sharad Pawar, the NCP will emerge as the largest party in the future,” he said.

Meanwhile, Patil’s statement ruffled some feathers in the Shiv Sena (UBT) camp, with party leader Sanjay Raut downplaying the remarks and stating that every party leader tries to please party workers by making such statements.

“Patil’s remarks were made at his party’s event. Similarly. There is nothing wrong with it. Ultimately, the next CM will be from the MVA,” he said.

The NCP is hoping to get the CM's post after emerging as the largest constituent of the MVA following the vertical split in the Shiv Sena. Patil and Ajit Pawar are both vying for the coveted post.
