Rajahmundry: A man was crushed to death while two women of the same family suffered fractured legs when a drunk TD leader ran his car over them, while they were sleeping near the road in front of their house, at Lankapeta of Bhimavaram in West Godavari on Tuesday midnight.
According to Bhima-varam two town circle inspector A. Chandrasekhar, TD leader Pilli Musalaiah, who is the husband of TD councilor from Ward No. 38 Pilli Clara, allegedly attended a liquor party at Gollalakoderu and was returning home at Lankapeta driving the car under the influence of the liquor when the incident occurred.
Tuttaramudi Mavullu, 35, and his two sisters Mariamma and Shanthamma were sleeping on the cots laid on the margin of narrow cement road in front of their house at Lankapeta.
The accident occurred at 12.30 am. Under the impact, Mavullu suffered severe injuries, while his two sisters suffered broken legs. He was shifted to a local private hospital for medical treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries after some time. The two injured sisters were admitted at a private hospital at Eluru for medical treatment.
Based on a complaint from Mariamma, the police booked a case under Sections 338 and 304 clause II of IPC and took the TD leader into custody.
His blood samples were sent for analysis to find out the quantum of alcohol content in his blood by the police and the report is awaited.
TD West Godavari president and MP Thota Seetaramalakshmi said, “We condemn the act of driving the car under the influence of liquor and causing death of a man and injuries to two women who were sleeping outside their house to avoid the summer heat. Whether the accused is a TD leader or a commoner is immaterial. Crime is crime and the culprit should be taken to task. The party leadership is initiating steps to provide relief to the kin of the deceased and to the injured persons under Chan-dranna Bima Scheme.”
Our party president and CM N. Chandrababu Naidu will not tolerate such irresponsible behaviour, especially by party functionaries.”
