1.45 lakh apply for engineering counselling
As on Thursday, 1,40,516 candidates completed their applications and 5,000 students after completing their registration are recording their marks.
Chennai: With just two days to go, over 1.45 lakh students have applied for online engineering counselling this year thereby crossing the 1.41 lakh applications filed last year.
As on Thursday, 1,40,516 candidates completed their applications and 5,000 students after completing their registration are recording their marks.
Of the 1.4 lakh candidates, 1.28 lakh students applied on their own while 12,091 students applied through TNEA Facilitation Centres (TFCs).
In the next phase, the applicants would be called for certificate verification to TFCs of their choice and subsequently, the rank list will be released.
The certificate verification will be held from June 8 to 13 at TFCs across state. Candidates who cannot attend the certificate verification can also authorise a person with a proper authorisation letter. For the candidates who cannot attend the CV on scheduled time, an opportunity will be provided on the sixth day to attend the certificate verification.
TNEA will give booklets containing information of all the engineering colleges and frequently asked questions. A video will also be displayed at TFCs explaining the next phase of online counselling.
TNEA secretary V.Rhymend Uthariaraj urged the candidates to use the TFCs while entering the choices, confirmation and allotment.
"We have made all arrangements at TFCs including internet facilities and qualified faculty members to assist the students. Those who do not have computers at home can use these TFCs for free," he said.
TNEA has set up TFCs only in government engineering colleges, university constituent colleges and in few government polytechnics, government arts and science colleges.
"TNEA did not set up any facilitation centre at private engineering colleges," he cautioned students.
There were several complaints from students and parents that private engineering colleges are setting up unauthorised facilitation centres to lure engineering aspirants.
The colleges have reached out to the students through social media like Facebook and WhatsApp saying they facilitate the online registration for free.
But, professors raised doubts that colleges might manipulate the choices of the students by obtaining login information including the password.
So, authorities have advised the students to use the TFCs effectively for the choice filling and confirmation as they can provide good facilities and unbiased guidance. It is also very important to keep the login information such as user ID, password and registered mobile number as confidential since all the information and updates will be sent through SMS and email.
