Chennai: Fake priest who robbed college girl arrested

Chennai: The Tambaram police on Friday arrested a fake priest, Suresh Kumar of Ambur, who robbed a college girl of her gold chain on the pretext of performing a puja to help get rid of her family problems.

The victim, a 21-year-old girl from Venbakkam in Tiruvannamalai was studying fourth year at a private Siddha college in Tambaram. Sources said when she was returning to her college from her native, a man followed her and said that he knew the girl's father. The man also told the girl her father's name and some details about him. It is alleged that the girl shared her personal problems with him. The man told that he knew black magic and promised to perform pujas to solve her family problems. He took her to the temple and asked her remove her gold chain and place it on the floor to make the black magic work. As she closed her eyes, he took 10 sovereigns of gold chain and fled the spot. The Tambaram police registered a case.On Friday, police arrested Suresh Kumar based on a CCTV footage.
