Karimnagar: The arrest of six ISIS operators by the NIA in Hyderabad on Wednesday created a flutter in the city. Mohammad Irfan, one of the arrested, is from Karimnagar.
Mr Irfan was among the youths who were detained by security forces when crossing the India-Bangladesh border for joining ISIS in the past. He was counselled by NIA and was handed over to his parents. However, he was again attracted to the outfit. This B.Tech student left home in 2014, without informing his parents. Later, his parents lodged a missing complaint with police.
It is learnt that Intelligence submitted a report stating that terror groups have set up 92 sleeper cells in the district. This has created tension among the public.
Karimnagar witnessed its first terror attack in a cinema hall way back in 2000. It was triggered by Azam Ghori, an ISI commander from Pakistan on February 7, 2000. He was killed in an encounter at Jagtial on April 5 the same year.
