Hyderabad: Depressed at being put in a rehabilitation centre, a 58-year-old retired government employee committed suicide in Jawaharnagar on Wednesday. Police said that B. Ashok Kumar hanged himself in one of the bathrooms at the centre. Ashok Kumar was a resident of Abids and was staying alone with his mother at home. His son is working in Singapore and his daughter is working in the US and his wife is also staying with her.
As he was addicted to alcohol his relatives shifted him to the Vijaya Foundation Rehabilita-tion centre located in Vampuguda village. On Wednesday after having tea with fellow inmates of the home, he went to relieve himself.
"But when he did not return after a long time the staff went in search of him and found him hanging on the ventilator of the bathroom with his lungi," Dundigal inspector G. Venkateswarlu said.
During inquiry police found that he was depressed since many weeks and never mingled with others at the home. Based on a complaint from the home supervisor, a suspicious death case was registered and the body was handed over to the family after post-mortem.
