Hyderabad: Scare on social media, cops deny bomb rumours
Police dismissed the reports as rumours and warned people spreading rumours of legal action.
Hyderabad: Although security across the twin cities has been beefed after the arrests of ISIS suspects on Wednesday, social media is flooded with messages spreading fear.
If one said, “Hyderabad on high alert. 14 bombs planted around Hyderabad. CISF and RAF ordered to be on high alert at vital places. Please avoid shopping malls and multiplexes,” others spoke of arrests being made at a mall and at the airport.
Police dismissed the reports as rumours and warned people spreading rumours of legal action.
Meanwhile, security has been beefed up at vital establishments across the city including the airport, IT Zone, Old City and other places. Cyberabad police carried out vehicle checks while Hyderabad police said the checks were routine.
Hyderabad police commissioner Mahender Reddy said that the information on social media are mere rumours. “All necessary security arrangements have been made in Hyderabad city. The people are requested not to believe rumours on social media,” he said.
Cyberabad police said that the suspects had not carried out any recce on establishments and that citizens can carry on with their business as usual. “We are on the job to trace people who are spreading rumours They will be booked,”' Cyberabad police commissioner, West, Naveen Chand said. The airport has cancelled all passes from Thursday. All roads leading to the airport are being checked. Visitors coming with passes will not be allowed till July 6 and only passengers with valid ticket and identity proof will be allowed inside, a senior police official said.
Tighter security for friday
In view of Jummat ul Vida, the last Friday of Ramzan, the city police has tightened security near the Macca Masjid and other mosques in the Old City. Police said 1.917 security personnel will be deployed at 80 locations.
The additional security will be deployed from Friday morning and will be in place till Sunday morning and will be monitored by additional commissioner of police (crimes) Swati Lakra.
Police has identified 80 mosques and 100 pickets will be set up for the safety and security of the people. This force will be in additional to the local police and the police on bandobust at the HIgh Court.
“ All necessary measures are in place to ensure public safety, especially concerning to the hundreds of devotees visiting mosques from Friday to Sunday.” DCP South V. Satyanarayana said.
