Bid to arrest suspect in court hall: Cop transferred

Coimbatore: A police inspector was transferred as part of the departmental action against him for making attempts to arrest an offender when the latter surrendered in court in connection with a murder case in Coimbatore recently.

Police sources said, Muneshwaran inspector of Singanallur police station under the city limit, recently arrested three offenders in connection the murder case of a 39-year-old auto driver Chitty Babu, whose body was found at Irugur road on April 5.

Police also launched a search for the remaining offender Santhosh, 29, who was on the run; meanwhile Santhosh came to the Tirupur court few weeks ago to surrender in front of the Magistrate in connection with the case.

On information, the police inspector rushed to the court and made an attempt to arrest Santhosh at the court premises, even as the lawyers at the court besieged the inspector and condemned the action of inspector Muneshwaran.

A complaint was also lodged at the Madras High court against inspector Muneshwaran on behalf of the lawyers association.

Taking a serious view of the incident which was against the Law, the High court directed the Coimbatore City police to submit a detailed report on the issue. Meanwhile, the DGP passed a transfer order directing inspector Muneshwaran to join duty at South zone police station immediately.
