New routes to slash traffic by 50 per cent in Hyderabad
During the recent rains, vehicles were stranded at Cyber Gateway junction for about 3 hours, with much of the jam caused by waterlogging.
Hyderabad: While the city roads will continue to be choked, there is good news for the harried motorists of the IT corridor which witnesses traffic jams 24x7.
Following a recent visit, Mayor Bonthu Rammohan and officials of GHMC’s Serilingampally Circles 11 and 12 launched surveys to find alternative roads and have hit upon a solution to reduce traffic by up to 50 per cent.
GHMC Serilingampally deputy commissioner V.V. Manohar said that the officials identified four major alternative routes and devised plans to develop four junctions.
“We have identified a road from a junction near Chirec Public School to Madinaguda through JVG Hills, the High Tension Road at New Hafeezpet and roads through some colonies. We have prepared an estimate of Rs 64 lakh for pipeline work and Rs 78 lakh for road construction,” he said.
Another official said that the GHMC local engineering wing can sanction money for works worth less than Rs 2 crore. If it exceeds Rs 2 crore, it goes to the GHMC’s projects wing.
“To avoid delay, it has been decided to split the work,” the official said. That way, local officials can clear the smaller parcels of work.
During the recent rains, vehicles were stranded at Cyber Gateway junction for about three hours, with much of the jam caused by waterlogging.
Officials have identified an alternative route from Kondapur Junction to Raghavendra Colony which they propose to widen. There is another proposal to make the road from Kothaguda junction to Shilparamam one-way. Another route is being developed from KPHB junction to New Hafeezpet through the Manjeera pipeline road.
Mr Manohar said that after Shilparamam, there was a route to Kothaguda junction from the left side of the Ramalayam. “This will take time. After we complete the other surveys, we will prepare estimations,” he said.
Similarly, officials have decided to develop circles at Khajaguda, Alwyin Colony, Kothaguda and Botanical Garden junctions to better distribute traffic.
