Hyderabad High Court asks Telangana to study demand by Sarpanches
He submitted that development activities in the villages would have been affected with the appointment of special officers.
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday directed the Telangana government to take appropriate decision on the representations of the outgoing elected Sarpanches of Gram Panchayats to appoint them as the Person in Charge till conducting the elections to the Gram Panchayats in the state.
Justice MS Ramachandra Rao, while dealing with petitions by eight outgoing Sarpanches from various villages of the state, directed the principal secretary of Panchayat Raj department, Panchayat Raj Commissioner and district collectors to examine the representations of the petitioners and take appropriate decision.
The petitioners told the court that their term would end on August 1, 2018 and they had already represented the government to appoint them as person in charges till holding the elections. The counsel for the petitioners told the court that there was no provision in the Telangana Panchayat Raj Act to appoint the special officers to the Gram Panchayats. He submitted that development activities in the villages would have been affected with the appointment of special officers.
