Chennai: A special court for CBI cases in Chennai on Tuesday convicted the DIG of CRPF, Chennai in a corruption case and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for two years. The court also convicted two others, including an Assistant SI, in the case.
The Anti-Corruption Branch, CBI, Chennai conducted a preliminary investigation in 2013 into allegations of corruption against P.Nagarajan, DIG, Group Centre, CRPF. The senior police official was accused of demanding a bribe from a manufacturer and supplier of men's women's wear for expediting payment of bills for supply of combat coats.
Johnson Devakumar, ASI, GD, (Quarter Master Clerk), Group Centre, CRPF, Avadi, Chennai and Vijay Khanna, Director, M/s Madhur Enterprised Pvt Ltd were also accused in the case. The CBI filed a charge sheet against them under section 120-B IPC, and section 712, 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of Prevention of Corruption Act 1988. The prosecution alleged that M/s Madhur Enterprise paid the demanded illegal gratification for expediting their bill for payment for the supply of combat coats. On completion of trial, the XII Special Judge for CBI cases, Chennai, A. Murugan convicted them on the graft charges and sentenced them to undergo two years of RI. The judge also slapped them with a fine of Rs 65,000.
