NSG chief Sudeep Lakhtakia retires from service

Hyderabad: Senior IPS officer of the Telangana cadre Sudeep Lakhtakia, who was working as the Director General of the National Security Guards (NSG), retired from service today. Till a fresh appointment is made, the Centre has given additional charge of the NSG to ITBP Director General S.S. Deswal.

Lakhtakia, who has had a long stint in the Special Protection Group (SPG), which caters to the security of the Prime Minister and his immediate family members, had previously worked as the Additional DG in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Sudeep Lakhtakia was appointed as DG, NSG in February 2018.

In the state, he worked as the Vijayawada Police Commissioner in united AP and also held other posts including that of DG, Law and Order. An IPS officer of the 1984 batch, Lakhtakia has had an impeccable track record. He is among the 10 IPS officers of his batch who had a key assignment in the Government of India.

During his tenure as DG, NSG, the elite force had gone in for a massive revamp. The Hyderabad-based NSG hub was inaugurated last year.  The force has also gone in for massive upgradation with new gadgets and weaponry being purchased while some more proposals are in the pipeline.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet is expected to approve the names of one of three senior IPS officers who would be replacing Lakhtakia as NSG Chief.
