Delhi Services Bill not tabled
NEW DELHI: The Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill to replace the controversial ordinance handing over services in New Delhi to the Lieutenant Governor, was to be taken up on Monday as the Centre had circulated copies of the draft Bill to Members of Parliament. However, the proposed Bill was not listed in the “list of business” for the Lok Sabha for Monday.
The Bill is likely to see three major deletions and one addition from the ordinance, giving the lieutenant-governor the power to make appointments to boards and commissions constituted by the Delhi government.
As the Opposition accused the government of “not taking up” the no confidence motion it has moved and pushing its own agenda, Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha and Union minister Piyush Goyal told reporters that everyone knows that the government has a two-thirds majority in the Lok Sabha and that the numbers strongly favour it.
