Kochi: Kerala’s contribution and achievements in the education sector is really a commendable feat, Vice President Hamid Ansari said while inaugurating the Vidya Dhanam scholarship project, initiated by Prof. K.V Thomas MP, at St. Theresa’s College on Wednesday.

“The social and economic indicators of the state reflect the strides it has made in the education sector. The state has a history of successful struggles against communalism, economic backwardness and superstitions. Achievements in the education sector could successfully overcome the challenges posed by social inequality and to strengthen people’s intervention in bringing positive changes,” he said.

Complimenting the scholarship scheme, he said that such programmes would be an encouragement for students from financially deprived families, especially when cost of education was going up.

“In social security schemes including education sector, Centre should provide enough funds for states,” he added. Governor Justice P. Sathasivam while delivering the presidential address shared the views of the Vice President.

Mr. Ansari distributed certificates to four students who secured A Plus in all subjects in SSLC and Plus Two examinations.

Minister K. Raju, MLAs S. Sarma, K.J Maxi, Mayor Soumini Jain, former minister K. Babu, BPCL executive director Prasad Panickar and SBI chief general manager S. Venkitaraman were also present.
