Karnataka: Dasara panel invites Ilayaraja, Shubha Mudgal to perform
The first batch of eight elephants, Arjuna, Balarama, Abhimanyu, Bheema,Varalakshmi, Gajendra, Cauvery and Vijaya arrived a few weeks ago.
With a month to go for the much awaited Jumbo Savari on September 30, that will draw the curtains on the 10 -day Dasara festivities in Mysuru, the second batch of seven elephants that will participate in it , arrived at the courtyard of the Mysuru Palace Thursday evening. They were given a grand welcome by Dasara special officer and Mysuru DC, D Randeep, to the tunes of nadaswara and poojas.
The latest batch of elephants includes first timers, 56- year- old Krishna, who is a champion in capture operations and 35- year -old Drona , who has been used in operations to mitigate man- animal conflicts. The others are Dasara veterans, 35- year- old Gopalswamy, and 44 -year- Vikrama , 35 year old Gopi , 50- year- old Harsha and 61 -year- old Prashantha.

With several artistes of national and international repute like Ilayaraja, and Shubha Mudgal invited to perform at Dasara, the district administration is looking for sponsors in addition to the Rs 15 crore allocated by the government. At a meeting with hoteliers of Mysuru, it reserved five per cent of 6700 rooms in 370 hotels for artistes and guests expected for the celebrations.
