Telangana: Road repairs washed away
They were carried out during rains.
Hyderabad: Despite the heavy rainfall warning issued for city, the GHMC is seen filling potholes with BT and cement. A new road or a repair job needs 24 hours of dry weather to set. Traffic also should be kept at bay. By this untimely act, materials worth lakhs of rupees will be washed away even if there is a single rain. The GHMC engineering wing is repairing roads during the dry hours on rainy days. It is also laying roads across the twin cities. At Neerdmet in Kapra Circle, the GHMC authorities laid a cement patch while the city received rains. Besides, the traffic also caused further damage. The KPHB area also followed suit.
Professor N.V. Ramana Rao, JNTU, civil engineering department, said, “A concrete cement road needs 48 hours and a bitumen road needs 8-10 hours to dry. During pothole filling, the material base should be strong and the area should be barricaded.” Experts said that when water enters a concrete cement or bitumen topped road, it weakens bond intensity and the aggregate is damaged.
