Woman-friendly Cyberabad is the goal, says police chief Sandeep Shandilya
Mr Shandilya revealed plans to streamline traffic and resolve other issues in Cyberabad.
Hyderabad: Stating that preventing crime against women and children was his first priority, Cyberabad police commissioner Sandeep Shandilya on Friday said that victims need not come to the police station to lodge complaints; their male relatives can do so on their behalf.
He said that only women police officers will communicate with the victim, to the extent of escorting them for medical examination if needed.
Interacting with the media here, Mr Shandilya revealed plans to streamline traffic and resolve other issues in Cyberabad.
“The number of accidents on the ORR is increasing due to various reasons and plans are underway to streamline vehicle discipline and thus reducing accidents,” he said.
“Discussions with all stakeholders are in progress and will be implemented in a month or two,” the Cyberabad police chief said, adding that traffic remained one of the biggest problems faced by his department. “At some places, engineering defects cause traffic blocks; in others, poor road quality, lack of FOBs, proper signages etc,” Mr Shandilya said.
“We will follow 3E strategy- engineering, enforcement and educate policy for smooth traffic flow. To avoid inconvenience to commuters, we will soon introduce e-challan system,” he said.
Accepting that crime rate is rising in Cyberabad, the top cop said that this was reflective of cases being freely registered irrespective of their nature and the value of the property lost in the offence.
He said citizens have been regularly advised to take some precautionary steps to avoid loss of property.
“Better policing needs better paperwork, with which case detection and conviction becomes easy. In many cases, officers neglect paperwork, case diaries are pending. If a GD entry is made every time a person creates some nuisance, after more than 10 such entries he can be detained under PD act also” Mr Shandilya said.
