Shivamogga: Promising more funds for Shivamogga district in the next budget for its overall development, CM B.S. Yediyurappa on Monday said the famous Jog Falls in Sagara taluk would get a facelift to make them an even bigger tourism draw than they are. The Chief Minister pointed out that  a task force headed by Dr Sudhamurthy of the Infosys Foundation had been constituted to tap the huge tourism potential of the state, and promised that things would dramatically improve on this front in future.

Mr Yediyurappa, who opened an office for land acquisition for the railway line at Shirakipura, said the state would release Rs 750 crore as its share for the Shivamogga-Shikaripura-Ranebennur railway line and the work on it would begin shortly.

He added that a deadline of 10 months had been given for completion of the airport work in Shivamogga and Rs 45 crore had been released so far for the project, He hoped the airport would bring more industries to the district and provide more employment to its youth.

Noting that a garment unit was coming up in Shikaripura ,which would prove employment to around 2,000 women, he said more measures were being taken to draw more industries to the district.

The CM assured that the irrigation projects, which were making slow progress in Shivamogga, would be completed in a year. “A sum of `607 crore has been released for completion of the Hosur-Uduguni-Talagunda irrigation project and work on the Hosahalli lift irrigation, Kallur irrigation and three more lift irrigation projects at Soraba will begin soon,” he said.
