Actor registering car in Pondy not illegal: Minister of transport
Asking about more cases of same manner, the minister said that no more cases were brought to his notice other than that of the actor.
Puducherry: Pondy minister of transport MOHF Shajahan maintained that there was nothing illegal in South Indian actor Amala Paul registering her vehicle in Puducherry.
“Provision in the Motor Vehicle Act allows registering of vehicles in Puducherry using a temporary address proof including life insurance policy. The actor had submitted an affidavit stating that she is resident of Puducherry and also the life insurance policy. Nothing illegal happened in this,” said the minister.
Asking about more cases of same manner, the minister said that no more cases were brought to his notice other than that of the actor.
“If we receive complaints that people are using fake documents to register the vehicle in Puducherry only to evade tax, the government will take action and initiative criminal procedures against them”, said the minister.
Meanwhile, Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi plans to take strong actions against those who have registered their vehicles in Puducherry to skip the heavy tax slabs in the state for registrations.
A day after Bedi directed the transport commissioner and senior police officials to register a case of fraud against Malayalam and Tamil actor Amala Paul, who reportedly evaded tax by registering her luxury car in Puducherry, the Lt Governor visited the transport department on Tuesday as follow up of complaints regarding registration of more vehicles of other states in the Union Territory of Puducherry. The Lt Governor said that she will be writing to the Union government to have this matter addressed.
