BENGALURU: Residents of Manyata Residency, led by Kannada film star Shivarajkumar, staged a silent and peaceful protest on Tuesday evening against traffic chaos and heavy traffic jams caused by vehicles of Manyata Embassy Business Park , which use the roads of residential layout every day.

They gathered on the main road at Manyata Residency-MEBP junction and restricted the movement of four-wheelers through the layout between 5 pm and 8 pm.  Shivarajkumar and his wife Geetha led the protest.

Though the community is not a public layout yet as it is not handed over to the BDA, other vehicles ply through it. Residents mobilise funds to maintain roads. But because of traffic, the roads are getting damaged, the protesters said.

Mr Shivarajkumar said, “Layout developers promised a lot, but have failed us. In the last two-three years, several new buildings have been added to the business park area but infrastructure has been neglected. The tech park has two other exits which are closed. They want to use the lone road in the residential layout. This is a nuisance to residents. We’re unable to enter our own houses or even get out in the evenings. The traffic pile-up is so heavy that residents are forced to park their cars outside and walk a few kilometres to their houses. I have faced this too.”

President, Manyata Residency Nivasigala Kshemabivriddhi Sangha, Jayaraman, and other residents took part in the protest.
