Telangana: Farmer ends life over bad crops

Hyderabad: Damaged crops and financial burden forced a farmer to commit suicide in Sangareddy district on Tuesday. Poojari Veeresham, 40, consumed  pesticide, said the police.

Veeresham owned one acre land and had recently taken four acres of land on lease to cultivate paddy.

But the half grown crop were infected with a crop disease due to which there was no further growth.

Meanwhile, Veeresham had borrowed Rs 1.5 lakh from different persons in the village and he also had up to Rs 2 lakh debt, which he borrowed for his elder daughter’s marriage two years ago.

On Tuesday, he left to the field as usual. Around noon, farmers from the neighbouring fields found him dead  in his field, frothing from his mouth.

A case was registered and the body was handed over to his family after the postmortem.

Veeresham is survived by his wife and two children.
