Chennai: Transport minister M.R. Vijayabhaskar on Wednesday opened 30 special ticket reservation counters at Puratchi Thalivar MGR Bus Terminus at Koyambedu.
The transport department already announced special buses from November 3 to 5 to various districts and set up temporary bus stands to ease the congestion. To ease booking for buses, the transport minister already announced such special booking counters. Accordingly, a total of 26 counters would be opened in Puratchi Thalivar MGR Bus Terminus, while Tambaram (MEPZ) bus stand would have two ticket counters.
Similarly, one counter would function at Poonamallee bus stand and one more counter introduced in the recently opened Madhavaram bus terminus.
Addressing reporters after inaugurating the counters, Vijayabhaskar said that such counters would be convenient for passengers, who do not need to go from pillar to post for booking the government buses.
“We have already prepared a route-chart to reduce the congestion. Accordingly, buses would be operated,” he noted.
Temporary bus stands like Poonamallee and Tambaram would pave the way for reducing Deepavali rush, he said. Further, the Madhavaram new bus terminus is for passengers travelling to Andhra Pradesh, said an official.
