Vijayawada: Heavy rush witnessed at enrolment centres
On the last day of registration, 1.5L got enrolled as voters
VIJAYAWADA: Being the last day for getting registered as voters, heavy rush was witnessed at the enrolment help centres in Vijayawada on Wednesday.
Telugu Desam, YSR Congress, Jana Sena and Communist parties have been running voter enrolment help centres at various places in the city, in the last few days. The activists of various political parties browsed through the internet on their laptops and searched in the voters' lists to help the people check if their names were existing. They also helped youth get enrolled as new voters online.
Rush was witnessed at the help centres at Satyanarayanapuram, Arundelpeta, Chittinagar, Kothapeta, Madhura-nagar, Labbipeta, Wynchipeta, Krishna-lanaka, Patamata, Machavaram, Gunadala, Durgapuram, Bhavani-puram, Rajarajeswaripeta in the city. The local leaders of YSRC, TD, Jana Sena and Communist parties enrolled young activists of their parties as new voters at the help centres.
G. Subba Rao and T. Narendra, residents of Durgapuram, said that they had shifted their houses from I Town to Durgapuram and came to know that their names were not existing in the voters list. They said that they don't know how to apply online to get voter ID card. "The people at the help centres guided us in applying for new voter ID cards," they said.
According to reports, around 1.50 lakh people, of whom a majority were youth, got enrolled as voters in Krishna district till Wednesday morning.
At the help centres, the youth were also told about the need to exercise their franchise to make the country have good leaders.
A large number of youth showed interest in getting enrolled as voters following motivation camps and seminars held in colleges by the election officials in the city. Even adults also reached the centres and checked if the voters lists had their names.
