Record funds given to women SHGs in TN: Edappadi K Palaniswami

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu has created a new record for a single year in disbursal of loans to women self help groups (SHG) by disbursing Rs 11,449 crore worth loans, to 2,95,612 women SHG's during the fiscal year 2018-19, Chief Minister, Edappadi K. Palaniswami said here on Thursday. The loan disbursal had exceeded the set target of Rs 11, 000 crore for women SHGs’, he underscored.
Speaking at a function in the city to unveil `550 crore worth completed development projects under the aegis of the Municipal Administration and Water Supply, Rural Development and CMWSSB departments, Palaniswami said that the state rural rejuvenation scheme, a major anti-poverty and employment generation programme in the rural areas, will be launched with the help of World Bank assistance.
The outlay for this programme is `918.20 crore and it will be implemented over a six-year period covering 3,994 village panchayats spread across 120 taluks and 26 districts in the State, Palaniswami said, adding, it will benefit women, scheduled class/ scheduled tribes and youth among other marginal sections.
