Kozhikode: 2 get life for IUML worker's murder
First witness statement proved crucial.
Kozhikode: The two accused persons, who were found guilty in the murder of IUML worker Nasiruddin Azeez, 22, were sentenced to life imprisonment by the additional sessions court-I here on Friday.
Judge Suresh Kumar also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh each on the duo-Kappachery Basheer and Kolliyil Anthru- and in default sentenced them to one more year in jail. The court on Wednesday had found the first and second accused guilty and exonerated five others.
Azeez of Velam here was stabbed to death by the duo on July 15 this year. The statement of first witness, Abdul Rauf, proved crucial during the trial.
The crime was committed while Nasiruddin was pillion-riding with his relative Abdul Rauf. The assassins waylaid them near the Ananthoth Salafi Masjid at Cherapuram, Velam, and stabbed the victim.
The court examined 37 witnesses. The accused one and two were slapped with IPC section 302 for murder while the others were charged with destroying evidence, helping the first two to evade arrest and covering up the crime. Mr C.K. Sreedharan was the special public prosecutor
