Vijayawada: Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with a member of a women Self Help Group, who is a trained drone pilot, via video conferencing on Thursday as part of BJP’s Vikasit Bharat Sankalp Yatra in Andhra Pradesh.

On the day, the PM also formally launched the Pradhan Mantri Mahila Kisan Drone Kendras.

During the programme, the Prime Minister dedicated the landmark 10,000th Jan Aushadi Kendra at AIIMS, Deoghar, in Jharkhand. Modi said the number of Jan Aushadhi Kendras in the country will be increased from 10,000 to 25,000.

The PM had announced the drone and Aushadhi Kendra initiatives as part of his Independence Day speech earlier this year. Thursday’s programme marks the fulfilment of these promises.

During the video conference led by the Prime Minister, SHG member Komlapati Venkata Ravnamma from Prakasam district in Andhra Pradesh shared her experience of learning to fly drones for agricultural purposes. She informed Modi that it took her 12 days to complete the training for flying drones.

On a query by the PM about the impact of using drones for agriculture in villages, she said it helps in tackling the issues of water while also saving time. The Prime Minister emphasised that women like Venkata Ravnamma are an example for those who doubt the power of women in India.

Modi declared that using drones in agriculture will emerge as a symbol of women's empowerment in the near future. He also underlined the importance of women participating in the Vikasit Bharat Sankalp Yatra.
