Hyderabad: While there has been a decrease in accidents in 2017, South Central Railway (SCR) reported zero collisions and accidents at level-crossings in the last three years.
However, two minor derailments occurred in 2017 in Maharasthra and north Karnataka which had no fatalities.
Level-crossing accidents were reduced due to renewed focus on elimination of unmanned level-crossings and track maintenance, said senior officials of South Central Railways.
According to them, rail failures were brought down to 95 incidents, diesel loco failures were 60 and electric loco failures were 71 while overhead equipment failures were was restricted to two cases.

The Railways has decided to focus on track maintenance to ensure accident-free travel. Consequential train accidents at level-crossings have also come down from 14 to 08.
Spokesperson from South Central Railway said, “SCR has initiated various measures to monitor safety. Measures include optimal track maintenance monitoring, counselling and motivating the staff.”
