Bengaluru: Bengalureans were all praise for the city police for ensuring safety and security while they welcomed the New Year with festive fervour on Sunday. Though tens of thousands of revellers thronged MG Road, Brigade Road, Church Street, Koramangala, Indira Nagar and Banaswadi on the New Year’s Eve, there were no cases of harassment and molestation reported from across the city.

As many as 15,000 police personnel took their positions as early as 7 pm on Sunday and braved the chilly weather till 3 am when revellers wound up their parties. The police were out in full force to ensure that no molestation incident like last year occurred.

“The police did a commendable job in ensuring the safety of the people who gathered to celebrate the New Year across the city, especially in the Central Business District. Everything went off peacefully and no untoward incident was reported this time,” Police Commissioner T. Suneel Kumar said. But 25 people were arrested for theft and creating nuisance.

No molestation cases reported, cops rubbishes rumours
Dismissing rumours that molestation cases were reported during the New Year celebration, Additional Commissioner of Police (East) Seemant Kumar Singh said that he strongly denied any such incident as no complaints were filed in any police station.

“We had turned the hubs where New Year celebration was taking place into fortresses and had intensified our patrolling. Everything went off as per our strategy and all credit goes to the Bengaluru law and order and traffic police for the combined effort. Our patrolling staff ensured that no nuisance was created in residential areas, especially in Indiranagar and Koramangala. No road rage and drag race cases were reported,” he said.

Stressing that the police left nothing to chance to ensure safety of people, he said that if any woman complains of molestation or any other incident, the police will act immediately and bring the culprits to book.

“We can easily identify the culprits as we had CCTV cameras installed at strategic places,” he said.
