Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee Kisan Cell chairman M. Kodanda Reddy and senior Congress legislator Komatireddy Venkata Reddy welcomed the 24x7 power supply to the farm sector, but expressed apprehension about its effect on the groundwater table.

Mr Kodanda Reddy said already the groundwater table was showing a declining trend in the state and with the 24x7 power supply, farmers would draw more than the needed water as a result of the auto starters installed for their motor pumps.

This would lead to serious water crises, he felt and said the whole programme was a publicity stunt of the government which spend crores on advertisement.
