IIT Guwahati student from Telangana allegedly dies due to overdose of alcohol
No one has been detained in connection with the case so far
Guwahati: In a shocking incident, a student of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati died due to overdose of alcohol at the Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH).
Police said that the girl identified as Aishwarya and three of her friends, all from IIT Guwahati were partying at a pub in Guwahati's Paltan Bazar on December 31. They later booked into a hotel room in the same area while inebriated.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Central Police District, Amitabh Basumatary told reporters, “After partying at Paltan Bazar, the girl and her companions checked into a hotel in the middle of the night. She was suffering from breathing difficulties in the morning, so her friends took her to GMCH for medical attention. However, the resident physicians pronounced her dead.”
Informing that authorities at IIT Guwahati have been informed about the incident the DCP said that following the routine procedure, the body of the deceased was sent for a post mortem.
Police said that family members of the deceased IIT-G student have not yet filed any case. The girl hails from Telangana.
Police said that they are awaiting the official autopsy result. The students accompanying the deceased were allowed to go back to IIT Guwahati campus. No one has been detained in connection with the case so far, police said.
