HCU suicide: Hyderabad HC stays arrest of 2 scholars for abetting suicide
They were challenging a case registered against them for allegedly abetting Rohith's suicide.
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Monday granted stay on the arrest of two UoH research scholars and their relative in a case registered with regard to the suicide of Rohith Vemula.
Justice P.V. Sanjay Kumar was granting interim order while dealing with quash petitions moved separately by ABVP activist N. Susheel Kumar and his uncle N. Diwakar, and UoH ABVP secretary Krishna Chaitanya.
They were challenging a case registered against them for allegedly abetting Rohith’s suicide.
The Gachibowli police had registered case against the petitioners apart from UoH vice-chancellor Appa Rao, Union minister Bandaru Dattatreya and BJP MLC N. Ramachandra Rao on a complaint by research scholar D. Prashanth, member of Ambedkar Students Associa-tion.
Mr Susheel Kumar told the court that the police had filed the chargesheet in a case regarding the assault on him in August. In that case, Mr Prashanth, Rohith and two others were accused.
He said he was the victim of the attack and now is being shown as the accused.
Mr Chaitanya submitted that he had informed the university about the attack on Mr Kumar and had nothing to do with Rohith?s suicide. Mr Diwakar told the court he was in Delhi when his nephew was attacked, and he informed his relatives and rushed to see the boy in hospital. He was being shown as an accused.
