Nalgonda: Kid falls in borewell, rescue operation on
Shanvi who was playing nearby followed her mother and accidentally fell into the borewell.
Hyderabad: A two-year-old child playing in a lemon orchard accidentally fell into an abandoned borewell. The incident happened in Nalgonda district.
The girl, Shanvi, had come to the orchard along with her parents who were repairing an old well on the premises.
Cameras inserted into the bore well by the police showed Shanvi waving her hands for help.
Varikuppala Swamy, a daily wage earner from Deepakunta village, his wife Sushmitha and daughter Shanvi came to Vallala village in Nalgonda district to repair an old well in a lemon orchard belonging to one K. Anjaiah.
Anjaiah had dug the borewell in the same premises a week ago but it failed. Unable to afford another borewell, he decided to repair an old well which he had stopped using a few years ago and hired Shanvi's parents.
On Monday, around 3.30 pm while the well was being repaired Sushmitha went to answer a nature’s call.
Shanvi who was playing nearby followed her mother and accidentally fell into the borewell although it was covered with thorny bushes.
People at the spot spot said the child failed to see the borewell hole as it was fully covered with green thorny bushes and other plants.
Her mother saw this when Shanvi started shouting “Amma, Amma” and alerted her husband. Villagers from neighbouring fields rushed to the spot and alerted the police and ambulance.
The police immediately swung into action and diverted a proclain machine which was on Mission Kakatiya Work from a neighbouring village.
The girl is believed to be stuck at a depth of 25 feet.
“We hope to rescue the child. Doctors are trying to supply oxygen through pipes. We have now dug a parallel pit till 20 feet. We will reach the girl very soon,” said inspector Praveen Kumar.
However, the rescue operation came to a halt for sometime when a stone blocked the path of the parallel pit.
The stone was quickly removed and the operation resumed.
