Bengaluru: The infamous Bellandur lake is on fire yet again. According to local residents, the  fire this time was reported at around 3.30 pm on Thursday, about 20 metres away from the location where the fire was reported on January 19.

This fire comes just two days after the National Green Tribunal passed on interim directions on January 29 to state bodies based on the action plan they submitted to the court.

Further, the tribunal while hearing the previous Bellandur fire did not agree to the claims made by BDA that mischievous elements were responsible for the fire and had directed the state government to physically remove the hyacinth, also called the macrophytes. Sonali Singh, a member of Bellandur Lake Group, told Deccan Chronicle, "Around 3.30 pm we saw a thick plume of smoke emanating from the lake. We immediately alerted fire officials" Immediately three fire tenders were pressed into service and by late evening the fire was brought under control, she added. There was no official confirmation from the officials on whether the fire was doused or not.
