Finally, man-eater of Nagarahole caught, to be sent to rescue centre

Mysuru: Forest officials heaved a sigh of relief on Friday afternoon after they tranquilized a man-eater in D.B. Kuppe range of Nagarahole National Park which had killed three people since December 24.
The tranquilized tiger is aged around seven years and had sustained minor injuries in territorial fights with another tiger in the region when it was trapped.

Veterinarian Mujib-ur-Rehman sighted the tiger among lantana foliage and darted the tiger before it was secured from the vegetation and loaded on to a vehicle to be shifted to Chamundeshwari Rehabilitation and Rescue Centre, Kooragalli, Mysuru.
D.B. Kuppe range officials say that the troublesome tiger was sighted 500 meters away from where it had mauled Kencha on Thursday afternoon and earlier images showed that it was the same tiger had also killed Chinnappa in Gundre beat of the range on Monday.
Soon, after Chinnappa was killed, Director of the Nagarahole Park Narayaswamy had secured permission to dart the big cat and he adds that shooting the tiger dead was the last option for them.
About the precautionary steps to be in place to thwart such tiger attacks on humans, Mr Narayaswamy on says villagers on the periphery areas will be told not to venture outside their homes in the dark besides urge Rural Development and Panchayat officials to construct toilets in the borders villages.
He adds that elephant proof trenches and solar fencing are the measures to be in place around the Nagarahole Park.
Meanwhile, villagers around D.B. Kuppe range blocked Mysuru-Mananthavady (Kerala) road passing through the range on Thursday expressing doubt over capture of the man eater.
A villager Machoor Ramu says villagers demanded proof of the captured tiger and this lead to angry mob of 300 men burning old tyres leading to tense situation on the highway and ultimately, police resorted to lathi charge to disperse the mob.
Later, the situation calmed the traffic was restored on the highway.
