Plastic to be banned at Pongala Festival
No to thermocol plates, aluminum foil, tetra packs too.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As part of its efforts to ensure a green Attukal Pongala Festival, the district administration on Friday imposed a total plastic ban in the corporation wards coming under the festival zone of Attukal Temple. District collector K Vasuki has issued the order strictly prohibiting the use of plastics from Feb 12 to 21. The ban order will come into effect in 21 wards in the declared festival zone.
Attukal, Kuriyathi, Mana-caud, Kalippanku lam, Ka-maleswaram, Ambalathara, Sreevara ham, Perunthanni, Palkulangara, Sreekanteswaram, Fort, Chalai, Thampanoor, Arannoor, Valyasala, Kalady, Nedumkadu, Karamana, Thycaud, Palayam, Vanchiyoor, Jaga-thy, Muttathara, Melamkodu, Manikkavilakam, Va-zhuthacaud, Thiruva llam, Pettah, Chackai, Pappan-amcode and Nemom are the wards coming under the festival zone.
Paper cups, paper plates, plastic water bottles, thermocol plates, aluminum foil, tetra packs, plastic cover, plastic carry bags, single-use plastic products are some of the items prohibited in the festival zone. The Collector said that strict action will be taken against those violating the order.
For the past three years, the city corporation has taken an effort to enforce green protocol during the Attukal Pongala Festival.
