'Over 3,000 rape cases registered in Chhattisgarh in last 2 years'

Raipur: As many as 3,094 rape cases were registered in Chhattisgarh in the past two years, state Home Minister Ramsewak Paikra told the Legislative Assembly in Raipur on Thursday.
In a written reply to a question asked by MLA Rajendra Kumar Rai, the Minister said that total 24,122 cases of murder, loot, theft, dacoity, burglary, rape, duping and chain-snatching were registered between 2015-16 and 2016-17 in the state.
Of the total, the maximum number of cases (4,083) were registered in Raipur district during this period, followed by Bilaspur (2,745), Durg (2,595), Raigarh (1,494) and Janjgir-Champa (1,142), the reply said.
During this period, 3,094 rape cases, 1,763 cases of murder, 636 cases of loot and 115 of dacoity were registered, the minister said.
Of the registered offences, 9,616 were disposed and chargesheet was filed in court in 11,304 cases, while 3,093 cases are under investigation, it said.
