Chennai: Re-exam on August 4 for polytechnic lecturers

CHENNAI: The annual recruitment calendar released by the Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB) on Thursday reveals that re-exam for 1,065 polytechnic lecturers’ posts will be conducted on August 4.

Following a major scam in polytechnic lecturers’ exam in which around 200 candidates qualified with fake marks for certificate verification, TRB has cancelled the exam held on September 16 last year.

Though the Madurai Bench of Madras high court has allegedly quas
hed the board’s decision cancelling the exam on February 22, the board has not received the order, sources said.

Sources also pointed out that there are two other cases — one a suo-motu case initiated by the division bench and a public interest litigation pending before the courts in the matter.

The board also decided to completely overhaul the current recruitment system and has decided not to outsource any exam related works like scanning of OMR answer sheets and data procession for future recruitments. It also proposed  for scanners and other equipment that are needed for scanning of OMR sheets and data processing.

The annual recruitment calendar released by the TRB has four recruitment exams including the re-exam for lecturers’ posts in government polytechnic colleges. 

However, the board also mentioned that the recruitment schedule is subject to the outcome of the court cases.

The exam results are likely to be released in September 2018. Apart from polytechnic lecturers’ recruitment, another major recruitment is the recruitment of 1883 assistant professors to Government Arts and Science Colleges and Colleges of Education. The certificate verification for the posts will be held the second week of the June and the results tentatively will be released in July.

The Teacher Recruitment Board is also proposing to conduct the Teacher Eligibility Test on October 6 and 7.

The other recruitments include the appointment of agriculture instructors and assistant elementary educational officers.
