When they contacted the accounts section, they were informed that the salary details for December and January were sent only on February 19.
Kozhikode: Around 130 nursing students, who were employed at the Government Medical College hospital here on the basis of a one-year bond alleged that they were yet to receive their salaries from December. In response, officials pointed to technical difficulties in sending the proposals to the directorate of medical education in Thiruvananthapuram but added, that it would be sorted out soon. From last June, the BSc Nursing as well as General Nursing students who passed from the Government Medical colleges as well as hospital were employed in various government hospitals on bond basis along with nursing assistants and daily wage workers.
One of the nurses claimed that they were promised the basic salary of the staff nurses, Rs 27,800 but although they had been getting it, it was delayed for nearly a month. “In the beginning, when December’s salary was delayed, we thought that we would be getting it by the end of January. However, till date, there is no sign of the salary,” the nurse said. When they contacted the accounts section, they were informed that the salary details for December and January were sent only on February 19. The daily wage workers and nursing assistants were also suffering the same plight, they said.
