Thiruvananthapuram: The special police team which was probing the case related to the former chief Imam of Tholicode Jama Ath, Shafeek Al Qasimi, allegedly sexually abusing a minor girl, arrested Kabeer, 39, his brother-in-law.

Relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act have been slapped on him. Kabeer, a native of Panavoor, was an Imam at another Jama Ath and husband of Qasimi’s sister.

Qasimi was hiding in Kabeer’s house after the incident. The police who came to know about it took him into custody.  Kabeer told police during questioning that Qasimi stayed in his house for two days. He also told police that Qasimi had financially helped her. The court remanded Kabeer to judicial custody.
