Woman's death sparks violent protest in Salem
However, after that the poor woman developed some complications and suffered from excessive bleeding, sources said.
Salem: Enraged kin and members of the public smashed the glass panes of a private hospital here on Friday, accusing its doctors of negligence after a woman patient, admitted for post-delivery complications, died early today.
Police and revenue officials had a tough time to pacify the crowd in fully fury against the hospital, laying siege to its entrance and blocking doctors from coming in and going out. The protesters demanded against the doctors responsible for administering “wrong treatment” to the woman patient, Ms. Durga, wife of one Dhamodaran, a homeopathic practitioner in Irumbaalai Kollapatti area in Salem.
Sources said the woman who was in an advanced stage of pregnancy was admitted initially to another private hospital for delivery and few days back Durga had given birth to a baby girl in what was termed a 'normal delivery'.
However, after that the poor woman developed some complications and suffered from excessive bleeding, sources said. As many as 48 units of blood was administered to Durga but the problem continued. Doctors then tried a surgical procedure to stop the bleeding, but to no avail. Durga was then shifted to the second private hospital where she unfortunately died today.
Eventually, Ms. Sathya, joint director of Public Health, Salem, who had reached the spot by then, convinced the protesters to disperse peacefully, on her assurance that a committee will probe Durga's death and based on its report due action will be taken.
