Hyderabad: 2 kids, among four, injured in gas blast
LPG leak, sparks in the fridge were the cause.
Hyderabad: Four of a family including two children below the age of 10 suffered severe burns in an explosion that occurred in their house in Malakpet late Saturday night. The police suspect that leakage of LPG followed by sparks in the thermostat of the fridge could have caused the explosion.
According to the Malakpet police, Yatam Laxmaiah, 50, a native of Feroz Nagar village in Nalgonda district lived with his wife Yadamma in a flat in a three-storied apartment at Asmangadh and worked as an auto driver.
On Saturday afternoon, Laxmaiah's grandchildren, Moksh-agna, 7, and Tejaswini, 9, came to his house to spend the night there.
At around 12.20 am on Sunday, a huge explosion occurred, that burnt all four sleeping inmates, shattered windows of the house and of nearby apartments and also a church. Some vehicles too were damaged. Locals people rescued the victims who were taken to Osmania General Hospital for treatment.
East Zone DCP, Joint Commissioner M Ramesh, who inspected the house, said that though the impact of the explosion was such that it created a doubt of the presence of explosives, the scientific teams have ruled it out.
“The LPG leak followed by sparks in the thermostat of the fridge created a huge explosion. Due to the explosion, windows in the house and vehicles parked outside got damaged. The auto driver, his wife, and two grandchildren suffered injuries,” said the official.
Inspector K.V. Subba Rao of the Malakpet police said that the injured are being treated at OGH and are said to be stable. A case has been registered.
