Karnataka HC adjourns Justice Adi's appeal to Monday
The court challenged order of a single judge, who had dismissed petition.
BENGALURU: The Karnataka High Court on Friday adjourned the appeal filed by Justice Subhash B. Adi, Upalokayukta, challenging the order of a single judge, which had dismissed his petition questioning the process adopted by the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly on the motion for his removal from the post. The division bench, headed by Justice N. Kumar, adjourned the appeal to April 4.
Earlier, Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court Subhro Kamal Mukherjee had recused himself from hearing the writ appeal. The Chief Justice had stated, “Since one of us (Subhro Kamal Mukherjee, Chief Justice) is not willing to take up these matters on personal grounds, these writ appeals stand released from our list. The Registrar (Judicial) is requested to place these matters before the Chief Justice for necessary orders.”
‘Give alternative site to NRIs’
The high court has directed Joseph Chacko, accused of duping NRI by promising them residential sites, to either provide alternate sites or reimburse the amount. While hearing the case Justice A.V. Chandrashekhara passed an order pertaining to 52 NRIs, who have approached the court alleging Chacko of cheating them.
Since 1994, Chacko, a NRI himself, had allegedly duped hundreds of NRI settled in the Gulf by assuring them residential sites and later sold several sites under bogus kathas. The bench directed Chacko to provide alternate sites, which are free from litigation and have clear titles, to make an honest effort to aid the settlement. The bench directed him to provide the details in the next hearing on April 11.
‘Stop high decibel jets at HAL’
Following a petition questioning the test flights being carried out by HAL in a densely populated area, the high court on Friday told the petitioner to make Central Government a party in the case. “HAL airport is located very close to the Central Business District and it would be inappropriate to carry out test flights in these residential areas,” the petition stated. It sought directions to HAL to conduct these experiments at an alternate aerodrome along with certain other directions. The case stands adjourned.
