Apex court moved to disqualify TTV Dhinakaran's poll candidature
The HC asked the petitioner to approach the Election Commission for relief.
New Delhi: The Supreme Court has been moved on Saturday seeking disqualification of T.T.V. Dhinakaran of AIADMK (Amma) contesting byelections in R.K. Nagar constituency in Tamil Nadu on the ground that he was found guilty of Fera violation.
In his special leave petition filed by P.A. Joseph through his counsel Sivabalamurugan seeking to quash the Madras High Court order rejecting his plea. The HC asked the petitioner to approach the Election Commission for relief.
Assailing the HC order, the petitioner said Mr Dhinakaran was charged under offences of contravening provisions such as Sections 8, 9 & 14 of Foreign Exchange Regulation Act, 1972 for the reason that he acquired foreign exchange without previous general or special permission from the Reserve Bank of India during the year 1994/95 from persons not being authorised dealers in foreign exchange and deposited the amounts in a bank account outside India.
He said the Adjudicatory Authority had found him guilty and imposed a fine of '31 crores.
