Chennai: On the first day, 4,738 students have registered online for engineering counselling, scheduled to be held from June last week. Students can register for counselling until May 31.

Like last year the students have to fill the details and download the applications from Anna University's website. After enclosing necessary certificates they can send their applications to Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions Committee.

Experts are predicting the downward slide in engineering courses to continue this year as well.

"Due to various reasons, even the top engineering colleges had campus placements up to 70 per cent only. This will affect the engineering admissions for sure," said Jayaprakash A. Gandhi, career consultant and educationist.

"Last year more than one lakh seats are vacant after the engineering counselling. The same trend likely to continue this year as well," he said.

Of 524 private engineering colleges more than 100 colleges struggled to enroll students. These colleges admitted only less than 100 students. "Students will opt for colleges with better placements," he added

As per the engineering admissions schedule, the engineering counselling will commence from June 27. The rank list will be released on June 22.
