Vijayawada: Cool breeze brings respite from heat
Rains brought cheers to people, tears to farmers.
Vijayawada: Citizens, who faced problems due to the heat wave conditions, had the pleasure of cool breeze on Monday. The temperature in the city came down by 5ºC and a few parts of the city witnessed sudden rainfall. In the morning, people saw a heavily overcast sky. Gunadala, Nunna and other areas experienced thunderstorms and the city recorded a maximum temperature of 37ºC, the lowest maximum temperature in the last 20 days. Some areas received moderate rainfall in the evening.
Citizens, especially children, were delighted with the drizzle. “The sudden change in climate was a great relief from heat. We had postponed our shopping for the last one month due to the searing heat. Now, it is possible to go out,” said Jyotsna, a homemaker. However, the sudden climate change dashed the hopes of mango farmers.
“Sudden rains and raging wind this morning has affected the mango crop. A huge amount of Banginapalli fruit was damaged due to sudden rain. We are facing huge losses,” said Karri Narasimha Rao, a mango farmer at Pathapadu. Banana crop in around 200 acres was damaged in Musunuru.
